On Tuesday 24th November the Savills industrial & logistics team held its renowned Big Shed Breakfast virtually for the first time, inviting people from across the sector to hear how the market has fared in 2020. Despite the global pandemic, warehouse take-up is set to exceed 50 million sq ft, the highest ever recorded. This is largely due to the phenomenal growth of online retail that occurred as a result of restrictions facing the UK’s highstreets, especially during the first lockdown.
Following an introduction by national head of industrial & logistics, Richard Sullivan, research director Kevin Mofid gave a comprehensive market overview, covering everything from take-up and supply to capital markets.
Picking up on another key theme of 2020, wellness in the workplace, Katrina Kostic Samen, head of workplace, strategy & design at KKS Savills, discusses why it is now more important than ever to incorporate wellness into warehouse design.
The webinar concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Kevin, which saw Katrina join Ekaterina Avdonina, CEO of Mirastar, the pan-European developer, investor and manager of big box logistics assets, Oliver Bertram, development director at logistics developer Panattoni and Stephen Proudley, director in the retail team at Savills. Topics covered included investment opportunities, speculative development and how the retail sector is coping and what the repercussions might be for the industrial & logistics sector.
